It seems that Italy has finally discovered China, India and, more broadly, Asia. Not a day goes by without reading, on the main Italian newspapers, an article about China's economic development or Bollywood (the Indian film industry) or Bangalore (the Silicon Valley located south of India). Even the publishing industry has been satisfied and have recently been published many books that seek to analyze and understand the phenomenon in Asia. Just yesterday I attended the presentation of one of these: "Asia in the middle," co-written by Victor and Franco Mazzei Volpi. The key step is the analysis of different responses that China, Japan and India have given the twin challenges posed to the West since the mid-nineteenth century: that of modernization, collected immediately welcomed by Japan, but not by China and sent back to India after independence, the most recent of globalization. The different responses correspond to specific cultural traits and serve as a guide to the understanding of current economic and socio-political.
